Study Skills
- Don’t leave revision too late – if you haven’t already done so, start NOW!
- Make a revision timetable. You have three topics to revise.
- Make up your own revision notes: facts, mind maps, etc.
- Make a note of things you have difficulty with and attend Thursday lunchtime study support.
- Try past exam questions on the topic you are studying. Check the answers and get help if you need it.
- Text books: N4/5 Hospitality course notes – copies available for you to use in the HE department.
- Learn culinary terms. Use student glossary sheet and class notes to help.
- Practise short answers, time plans, costing exercises and timed questions.
- Practise your cookery skills as much as possible at home. e.g. chop, peel, cut matchsticks/batons, segment, blanche, puree, pipe.
- Practise cookery processes e.g. baking, stir frying, steaming, poaching, and grilling. This will help students speed, accuracy, timing and confidence when it comes to the practical activity.
- Recipes are available from HE department which students are welcome to use and if necessary borrow specialist equipment e.g. flan rings, piping bags to practise.
